Product Line:
Modern Vintage
Home Stereo Equipment

This is a product line based on the original General Electric clock radios. The radio / cassette player is updated with Bluetooth, USB out and AUX input. The headphones are cordless and Bluetooth capable with an additional 1/4” input for recording / audiophile use. The colors and basic shape were retained, while updating the design with a smooth sophisticated look and technology to match today’s needs.

The result uses the legacy and nostalgia of the original product to create an entirely new product line, meant for a niche audience who prefers vintage style, and modern convenience.

Legacy Product
& Inspiration

This is a hand-drawn formal analysis of The GE Clock Radio,
a product used as inspiration for a new line of home stereo
products with a modern take on the vintage style.

Concept Development

This idea was developed with a particular user in mind. Personally, I collect cassette tapes and vinyl records and I love vintage home decor and stereo equipment. Modern functionality allows music to be played from a phone or computer, or utilize wireless headphone capability.

Iterative Process

A low fidelity model was used to understand the proportions of a wearable device. The next step involved using an accurate scale human head model to design the headphones in CAD. Once the functionality was approved, the desired aesthetics could be applied with confidence.
